Make sure your passport is valid for a minimum of 6 months, and make color copies of your passport and keep it in a place OTHER than where you are keeping your passport.

You’ll be able to make international calls from Bodhi Tree for around $1 a minute should you need to connect back home. Or we have an internet phone service that is free.
The exchange rate is approximately 500 colones to the dollar. The easy way to estimate the cost in colones is to use 500 to $1. So a 1,000 colone bill is worth about $2. A 10,000 colone bill is worth about $20. U S dollars are king in Costa Rica and will be accepted everywhere. In stores you should be able to get a discount when paying with dollars. 20s are preferred and most stores will not take 100s. You will be able to use your credit card, (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), in most of the restaurants and some stores. Travelers Checks are a big pain to cash, don't bring them. There are ATMs in Nosara should you need that.
There is a good medical clinic in Nosara with doctors that speak English.
Everywhere you go you'll get by fine with English. BUT, it’s a lot of fun to give Spanish a try and the locals will enjoy helping you.
The water in Costa Rica is good, No need to worry about salads or vegetables. We’ll have bottled water available at Bodhi Tree.
Most restaurants and hotels include a 10% service charge on the bill. Additional Tipping is not expected but appreciated if you have been treated well. Tipping is up to you. All gratuities for the Bodhi Tree rooms and meals, as well as the 3 group dinners in the community have been covered.
We do not have phones or TV’s in the rooms.
A word about theft: do not leave your valuables in cars or vans, unattended backpacks on the beach, or out of your control. When out at the beach or at a restaurant or bar, leave any unnecessary items in your rooms, and use the safe boxes provided for your valuables.
